Avery Brewing Company is held in high esteem by beer lovers. Their innovative brews and progressive approach often garner industry praise and their Boulder brewery is a favorite for locals and visitors alike. Under the creative direction of my friends at Mondo Robot, I designed a responsive website that captures Avery’s eccentric personality with a strong emphasis on what really counts: the beer. The site was designed as an extension of the brewery, packed with compelling content for everyone from the casual drinker to the hardcore beer aficionado.
Over the past four years, Avery Brewing Company has grown from a small hole-in-the-wall operation to one of the most well respected craft breweries in the world. While this growth has allowed for massive expansion in their production of beer, it’s made it difficult to keep up-to-date with their ever-expanding portfolio of brews, recipes, and information surrounding them. Our challenge was to take an old, outdated website and overhaul the design to match the aesthetic and prominence of their newly renovated brewery in Boulder, Colorado.
We drew inspiration from Avery’s new brewery throughout the design process. The look and feel is meant to complement the clean lines and industrial polish found in Avery’s physical space. A unique side navigation saves real estate for the easy to maintain modular design system. Our intention was to minimize the interface, allowing bold photography, and typography to lead a user through the experience. The beer pages are designed to tell a robust story including statistics, quotes, pairings and recipes. Smart integrations make it easy to to find Avery beer nearby or to reserve a table in the brewery’s popular restaurant.
A Word From The Client
“There are two things to know about Scottie. He's got real design chops and he's one of the most likable guys around. The body of work he's created at a young age is nothing short of impressive. Almost as impressive as his athletic ability…don't even get me started.”Kai RaiderCreative Director at Mondo Robot
